Scottsdale, Arizona is the 7th largest city in Arizona, located approximately 11 miles east of downtown Phoenix. It was founded in 1894 by Winfield Scott, a retired U.S. Army chaplain, who visited the region, was impressed by its potential for agriculture, and purchased 640 acres for $3.50.
